OUR CHILDREN

Living in a world with people getting killed
By guns, gangs, abuse, and even pills
By their own friends and family, kids get harassed
They grow up repeating "this too shall pass"
Day by day, the problem increases
The poor children's love for life decreases
Why do we stare, with blind eyes?
Why do we act deaf, when we hear children's cries?
Making sure our own children fit into the greatest cliques
Ignoring all the kids getting beaten with sticks
We're ignorant to what events others see
Yet we wonder over and over, "What if that was me?"
Eventually we will all get down on one knee
And realize how grateful we should be
Although it seems like no one cares,
As though we grasp the concept, but stick our nose in the air
This pain we see in the children's eyes
Makes it hard to resist and walk on by
Yet to ourselves we continue to lie
Because it's too much effort to go and try.
